Jodphur - The Blue City (Jodphur/ India)

The old city of Jodphur sure stands out in the Thar Desert. It is painted in vibrant shades of blue.
Background stories behind the blue paint vary. Some say the houses were painted blue to indicate the homes of the upper-caste Brahmins, but others say the houses were actually painted white to begin with, but the buildings turned blue after copper sulphate was added to white lime in an attempt to deter nesting termites.

The stunning photos are by Steve McCurry - see more on his website.
