Coober Pedy Underground Homes (Coober Pedy/ Australia)

When Coober Pedy, South Australia was still used for opal mining the miners - facing unbearable heat and sun - dug their homes deep into the ground. Apart from homes the undergropund structures of Coober Pedy include a Catholic church, a motel, and even a local pub gone six feet under.

  1. I've heard about these. People pay for so much sq. footage or something, then dig their own homes and can style lay them out however they choose. Sometimes they even find opal and that's a way for them to make extra cash to pay for more additions. Only thing that would worry me would be spiders and snakes though. I hear they get pretty huge in Australia.

  2. What about jellyfish lake in Palau? :)
