The Enchanted Forest (Revelstoke/ Canada)

The Enchanted Forest (Revelstoke/ Canada)

What started off as a retirement project is now known as the The Enchanted Forest theme park. From 1950 to 1971, Doris and Ernest Needham built this fairy tale attraction on 38 acres of forest land. The hand cleared trails feature 350 cement fairy sculptures, a mushroom house, a castle, a life-size recreation of Winnie the Pooh's forest penthouse, a 50-foot-tall treehouse, and other mystical structures.
They are open during summer season from May - October.

Montreal Botanical Garden (Montreal/ Canada)

The Montreal Botanical Garden is considered to be one of the most important botanical gardens in the world due to the extent of its collections and facilities. The 190 acre big grounds are comprised of themed gardens and greenhouses featuring plants from all over the world.

In 2013 the gardens were holding the international Mosaicultures exhibition where competitors from around the world created giant living “sculptures” using plants as their medium. Each sculpture has a wood or wire framework filled with a growing medium through which a watering system was installed. Carefully selected plants were placed in the frames, grown over time and pruned to perfection.

The photos featured here were taken in summer 2013 and with the exhibition being over now I'm not sure how many (if any) of the sculptures would still be there, as it takes insane hours and around 80 gardeners to maintain them.

Hôtel de Glace - Ice Hotel (Québec/ Canada)

America’s only ice hotel - the Hôtel de Glace - is a mere 10 mins from downtown Quebec. The hotel's 36 rooms & theme suites are all created from ice and snow. It also features an ice bar, a cafe, a wedding chapel and a giant ice slide.

Over a 6 week period the hotel gets erected every year with construction beginning in early December using snow blowers and metal molds which are later removed.
The thick snow walls keep the temperature inside between -3°C and -5°C and arctic sleeping bags are provided to keep you warm as you go to sleep. They resist temperatures as low as -30°C so you're sure gonna be toasty.

Dream Hatcher (Whistler/ Canada)

Joel Allen: "The HemLoft is a self-funded secret creation that I built on crown land in Whistler, Canada. It hangs on a precipitous slope, in a towering stand of Hemlocks, about a five minute walk from the nearest road. When I started building it, I was just a fledgling carpenter, living out of my car. Building an experimental orb on a sheer slope, deep in the woods, with no electrical power, isn’t the recommended way to ease yourself into carpentry. However, I was armed with a couple of the most powerful tools a carpenter can have: blind naiveté and supreme determination."

Life size doll house (Saskatchewan/ Canada)

"Heather Benning’s Dollhouse is a larger-than-life piece that was situated in a Saskatchewan field. The artist replaced the back of the house with Plexiglass, allowing for a typical dollhouse viewing. Inside, Benning had redecorated the abandoned house with furniture of the 1960s, when the house was left empty."

Free Spirit Spheres (near Qualicum Bay/ Canada)

Among the tall trees of the west coast rainforest of Vancouver Island, awaits a tree house experience for adults... 16 years and over. (liability considerations)
The Free Spirit Spheres are eco-friendly living quarters that were created to co-exist with their forest environment.
The comfortable, gently swaying, restful spheres are available to rent 12 months of the year; each season providing something unique.

Habitat 67 (Montreal/ Canada)

Habitat 67 is a housing complex and landmark located on the Marc-Drouin Quay on the Saint Lawrence River at 2600, Pierre Dupuy Avenue in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its design was created by architect Moshe Safdie based on his master's thesis at McGill University and built as part of Expo 67.

Le Drague (Quebec/ Canada)

"This is the urinals in a men's washroom at a bar called Le Drague in Quebec City, Quebec. The colours are quite dark but you can still make out the statues and the tub. There are big funnels installed in the behinds of the statues, where the men do their business, and it comes out ... into the tub. The most amazing bathroom I've ever been in, that's for sure. I wish I had pics of the sink!"
