Kaos Temple (Polígono de Asipo/ Spain)

An abandoned and neglected historic church in the spanish municipality of Llanera, Asturias has been converted into a colourful indoor skate park. In December 2015, artist Okuda San Miguel started his colorful mural which now covers the churches vaulted ceilings and walls. Created in collaboration with Red Bull, ‘Kaos Temple’ is a sanctuary for both skateboarders and art lovers alike.

13 Plaça del Sol (Barcelona/ Spain)

This beautiful tower-shaped modernista building is located at 13 Plaça del Sol in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. The bottom floor currently houses Restaurante Envalira.

Basque Health Department HQ (Bilbao/ Spain)

The building is most recognizable for its cubist façade of glass. The glass sheets are placed on irregular angles, reflectiog the surrounding buildings of the city. The structure has a double
skin frame, which helps insulation. Most of the building houses offices while the basement has a 150 seat auditorium.

Capricho de Cotrina (Los Santos de Maimona/ Spain)

Francisco González Grajera - a retired bricklayer - started sketching and building Capricho de Cotrina 30 years ago. It somewhat resembles the works of Antoni Gaudi but Mr. Grajera says he's never heard of him during the entire time he was creating the place, but afterwards visited some of his buildings in Barcelona and liked the look of them.
His creation is the result of his imagination influenced by the wish of his young daughter, who wanted a house completely different from the others such as a palace or castle fit for a princess.

The building is constructed of limestone masonry, cement mortar and brick, being covered by a mosaic of colourful tiles & broken plates. Curves and round shapes are preferred to straight lines.
Meanwhile the place has become well known, through articles in Spanish journals and broadcasts on TV. Visitors are welcome!

Castillo de las Cuevas (Cebolleros/ Spain)

Cebolleros is a picturesque little community in the province of Burgos, northern Spain.
Castillo de las Cuevas (castle of the caves) was built single-handedly by Serafin Villarán who started it in the 1970s. He used stones & pebbles collected from nearby rivers - round and smooth from the erosion of the flowing water.
Inside the castle, small stones and concrete form mosaics and sculptures that function as lamps as well as gargoyles on the roof.
Serafin Villarán died in 1998, before the castle was complete so the
project is being continued by his son and daughter, Luis and Yoli. Visitors are welcome; exact location at the end of the post.

Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona/ Spain)

The Palace of Catalan Music is a concert hall designed in the Catalan modernista style by Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
It's the only auditorium in Europe that is illuminated during daylight hours entirely by natural light thanks to its stained-glass walls and enormous inverted dome skylight which was designed by Antoni Rigalt in shades of gold surrounded by blue that suggests the sun and the sky.
It was built between 1905 and 1908 and in 1997 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Old Cement Factory Home (Barcelona/ Spain)

This is the house & workspace of architect Ricardo Bofill, who found the abandoned cement factory in 1973 and transformed it into a home while keeping it's industrial vibe alive.

Tenerife Concert Hall (Santa Cruz/ Spain)

The Auditorio de Tenerife is located on the waterfront in the Los Llanos are of Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife. Situated between the Marine Park and the edge of the port, the auditorium connects the city to the ocean and creates a significant urban landmark.
The all-concrete building is characterized by the dramatic sweep of its roof. Rising off the base like a crashing wave, the roof soars to a height of 58 meters over the main auditorium before curving downward and narrowing to a point.

Metropol Parasol (Seville/ Spain)

The Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain, by Jurgen Mayer H. Architects, is the world's largest wooden structure. Metropol’s interlocking honeycomb of wooden panels rise from concrete bases, which are positioned to form canopies and walkways below the parasols.

Casa Batlló (Barcelona/ Spain)

Casa Batlló in the center of Barcelona is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family and situated in a prosperous district of Barcelona.

Like everything Gaudí designed, it is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, has unusual tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work. There are few straight lines, and much of the façade is decorated with a colorful mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles. The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur.

Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of el Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914.

El Capricho (Comillas/ Spain)

Casa Calvet (Barcelona/ Spain)

Casa Calvet was designed by Antoni Gaudí for a textile manufacturer which served as both a commercial property and a residence. It is located at Carrer de Casp 48, Eixample district of Barcelona.
It is the most conventional of Gaudí's works, partly because it had to be squeezed in between older structures and partly because it was sited in one of the most elegant sections of Barcelona. Its symmetry, balance and orderly rhythm are unusual for Gaudí's works. However, the curves and double gable at the top, the projecting oriel at the entrance— almost baroque in its drama, and isolated witty details are modernista elements.
